Alkuin Stillhart , birth name Josef Albert Stillhart , (born April 10, 1918 in Bazenheid ; † December 12, 2004 in Schwyz ) was a Swiss canon lawyer of the Capuchin Order .

Life

Josef Albert Stillhart was born in Bazenheid in the canton of St. Gallen , where he also grew up. After graduating from the Einsiedeln Abbey School , he joined the Capuchin order in 1938, where he took the name of the order Alkuin . He was ordained a priest on July 4, 1943. After studying canon law , he was in 1951 at the University of Friborg (Switzerland) with a thesis on the legal personality of the monastic association forms to canonical and Swiss law for Doctor of Laws PhD. From 1947 to 1975 Alkuin Stillhart taught as a lecturer for canon law at the theological faculty of the Capuchin monastery in Solothurn . From 1969 to 1973 he was Guardian of the monastery, then until 1979 Provincial of the Swiss Capuchins. Since 1982 Stillhart worked at the Capuchin Monastery in Wil in his home canton of St. Gallen, six years as a vicar and eleven as a pastor. Due to old age problems, he moved to the nursing home of the Capuchin monastery in Schwyz in 1999 , where he died in 2004. Alkuin Stillhart is buried in Wil .

Alkuin Stillhart's work was shaped by the Second Vatican Council .
