geography
Bazenheid is slightly elevated on the western bank of the Thur on the Wil - Wattwil transport axis . Geographically and historically, Bazenheid belongs to the Toggenburg.
history
A possibly Iron Age fortification is located at Unterbazenheid. Bazenheid was mentioned as Pacinweidu in a deed of donation from the St. Gallen Monastery , which is dated to 778 or 779. The parts of Ober- and Unterbazenheid have been documented since the 13th century. In the early and high Middle Ages , the St. Gallen monastery was the landlord in Bazenheid. In the 14th and 15th centuries, jurisdiction and numerous manorial rights passed to the Counts of Toggenburg . Ulrich ab Egg in Oberbazenheid in 1228 and Rudolf von Unterbazenheid in 1249 are mentioned as their servants . In 1468 the prince abbey of St. Gallen bought the count's property in Bazenheid and assigned the court of Bazenheid to the sub-office. In 1803 Bazenheid was incorporated into the new political municipality of Kirchberg . Bazenheid was the seat of the Alttoggenburg district office . When the new cantonal constitution came into force in 2003, the districts were abolished and replaced by larger constituencies.
The Christophorus House, which has been rebuilt several times, dates from the middle of the 14th century. The Laurentius Chapel, built around 1480, was expanded in 1644. The neo-Gothic Catholic parish church was built in 1894/95 , and in 1900 Bazenheid was elevated to a Catholic parish.

In 1834 a fire destroyed parts of Unterbazenheid. After the railway was built in 1870, the station district was created between the two districts. In 1896 the two school districts merged. The industrial boom in the Wil region after 1960 also changed Bazenheid, where the regional waste incineration plant, a meat-and- bone meal factory, a meat processing company Micarna and the Toggenburg blacksmith and tool museum are located today.
Infrastructure
In Bazenheid there has been a waste incineration plant of the Zweckverband Abfallverwertung Bazenheid (ZAB) since 1984 . The 95-meter-high chimney of the facility, built in 1992, was the tallest chimney in the canton of St. Gallen. It was replaced in 2009 by a new chimney that is only 50 meters high. The ZAB also offers organic and green waste collection .
traffic
Bazenheid is on the main road Wil – Wattwil – Wildhaus . In 2006, after four years of construction work, the bypass road costing CHF 133.7 million was opened, which freed Bazenheid from through traffic. It contains two tunnels of 506 and 375 meters in length and two bridges. The traffic in the village was calmed with accompanying measures in order to further improve the quality of life in the village. Side roads lead to Kirchberg, Mosnang and over the Thur via Unterrindel to Lütisburg , Flawil and Uzwil .
Bazenheid has a train station on the Toggenburgerbahn and is served every half hour by the S9 Wil – Wattwil of the St. Gallen S-Bahn . A line from BUS Ostschweiz connects Bazenheid with Kirchberg every hour.
