Petit Vieux Sou

The listed Allée couverte of Petit-Vieux-Sou is located about 2.5 km southeast of the village of Brécé ( Brec'heg in Breton ) in the Mayenne department in France .

The Petit Vieux Sou , named after a court, dates from the end of the Neolithic (2800–2260 BC). It was excavated and restored by Roger Bouillon between 1978 and 1982 and is now one of the most attractive megalithic monuments in the region.

The north-west-south-east oriented complex belongs to the category of gallery graves with side access , which is rare in France , comparable to northern European passage graves . The meter in an approximately 12.0 and 4.0 m wide Cairn of dry masonry lying gallery consists of 21 sidestones covered with nine slabs. It is about 1.5 m wide and high inside. The access is in the middle of the southwest long side. A short passage leads into the chamber.

The finds include 81 flint tools , 16 complete vessels and 1,169 broken pieces of good quality. Two vases are decorated, one with parallel grooves on the neck, the other with abstract symbols.
