The Allegheny Mountains are a small group of mountains about 15 km west of the Clark Mountains in the Ford Ranges of the West Antarctic Marie Byrd Land .
They were discovered during the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939-1941) during overflights from West Base . They are named after Allegheny College in Meadville , Pennsylvania , alma mater of US Antarctic explorer Paul Siple , who heads West Base .
