General German trade and industry association

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The General German Trade and Industry Association was founded in 1819 with a significant contribution from Friedrich List . His aim was to create a single market similar to that in England .

The association was founded during the Easter fair in Frankfurt am Main in 1819 . Mainly South and Central German entrepreneurs were involved. Friedrich List formulated the goals of the association as a consultant . This consisted of overcoming the internal German customs borders. Outwardly, List pleaded for a moderate protective tariff. The association initiated a large petition movement and tried to convince the governments and princes of these goals. At the height of the Restoration era, however, they strictly rejected outside interference in state affairs.

The goal was finally achieved step by step on the political stage of the German states within the German Confederation , whereby the General German Trade and Industry Association had no involvement but tried to influence the negotiators with journalistic and political campaigns. On March 22nd, 1833, the German Customs Union was founded . The General German Trade and Industry Association was dissolved in 1871.
