Oliver Sturm (director)
Oliver Sturm (* 1959 in Holzminden ) is a German theater and radio play director .
Life
Sturm received his doctorate in 1990 with a thesis on Samuel Beckett at the University of Hanover . He worked as an editor, translator, journalist and staged two operas in Berlin in 1987 and 1989. In 1990/91 he was dramaturge for the radio play series The Lord of the Rings at SWF. From 1992 to 1994 he worked as a research assistant at the seminar for German literature at the University of Hanover. In the following years he worked as a ballet dramaturge at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and the Deutsche Oper Berlin as well as a lecturer at the Institute for Theater Studies at the Humboldt University .
Sturm has been working as a freelance director since 1996, particularly in radio play productions for ARD ( Jeff Koons , Durchgangsverkehr, Minute Texts, Evangelium Pasolini ). In 1997 he directed Samuel Beckett's Square 1 + 2 at the Kraków Teatr Bückleina. In 2006 he staged Samuel Beckett's Residua at the Berlin Sophiensaele with guest performances in Heidelberg, Krakow and Tel Aviv.
In 2002/03 he was director of the radio play week and, in March 2013, artistic director of the audio art festival Radio Zukunft at the Berlin Academy of the Arts.
His radio play Immer dein, tuissimus (Samuel Beckett) represented ARD at the Prix Italia 2007. His radio play Evangelium Pasolini (together with Arnold Stadler) was voted radio play of the year 2016.
In 2008 he created the Gebetomat , a prayer machine for public spaces, of which six are currently available in different locations in Germany.
Sturm was elected as a new member of the Film and Media Art section at the spring general meeting of the Berlin Academy of the Arts on May 25, 2013.
His productions have received several awards , including radio play of the month and radio play of the year . Oliver Sturm, who also works as an author and dramaturge, now lives in Berlin .
