The General Sports Association of Upper Austria ( ASVOÖ ) was founded in 1947 and is a member of the General Sports Association of Austria . Popular sport has always been at the center of his efforts . The ASVOÖ is politically independent and sees itself as a non-partisan umbrella organization for all Upper Austrian sports clubs. The ASVOÖ currently looks after 544 member associations (as of 12/2016) with 900 sections and 200,000 members (as of 2016).

history

In the late summer of 1945, the ban on meetings was lifted and new associations began to be formed. A state sports department was set up in March 1946 by ordinance of the state government under Governor Heinrich Gleißner . In March 1947 the General Sports Association of Upper Austria was added to the umbrella organizations ASKÖ and UNION . It includes all those clubs that have not yet joined an umbrella organization.

Founding members, elected on March 15, 1947, include:

  • Colonel Eduard Schröder, Beethovenstrasse 1, Linz (1st chairman)
  • Walter Hauer, Enns Sport Club (2nd chairman)
  • Franz Zigon , I. Linz Swimming Club (Advisory Board)
  • Otto Göbl, Sports Club "Hertha" Wels (Advisory Board)
  • Rudolf Pichler, Gmunden Sports Club (Advisory Board)
  • Ernst Steinbacher, Police Sports Club (Advisory Board)
  • Franz Pichler, Railway Sports Club Linz "Westbahn" (Advisory Board)

In its founding year, the independent sports association had 56 clubs with around 15,000 members. In the early years, the activities of the ASVOÖ focused on the procurement of sports equipment and equipment for its members and their representation at offices and authorities. As part of the state sports organization, the ASVOÖ was significantly involved in the draft of the state sports law, which was unanimously passed in the Upper Austrian state parliament in July 1948.

The ASVOÖ - General Sports Association of Upper Austria sees itself as a representation of the interests of its around 1,600 member clubs and sections and supports them with extensive performance and service packages (see performance folder).

In particular, subsidies with various dedication purposes are distributed so that popular and club sports can develop and develop in Upper Austria.
