In 1949 ADIG Allgemeine Deutsche Investment-Gesellschaft was founded in Munich as the first German capital investment company. The founding members were: Bayerische Staatsbank , Bayerische Hypotheken- und Wechselbank , Jüdische Wiedergutmachungsbank , Bankhaus Seiler & Co. In March of the following year the put dit with the Concentra (WKN 847 500) on the first equity fund. In November 1958, dit launched the Thesaurus (WKN 847501), the first accumulating fund in Germany.

In 1960, ADIG offered the “participation-saving” route for the first time in Germany. With regular monthly payments of at least DM 30, investors were able to build up a wealth of securities. In January 1966, dit launched Germany's first pension fund (today: Allianz Euro Rentenfonds , WKN 847504). In 1968 ADIG managed total assets of DM 1 billion. In February 1969, dit offered the International Rentenfonds (today: Allianz Internationaler Rentenfonds , WKN 847505), the first international bond fund in Germany. In 1969 the "special fund company dbi dresdnerbank investment management" was founded. The company quickly became the market leader among German special fund companies. In 1988 the ADIG sister company "ADIG-Investment Luxemburg SA" was founded. In 1990 dit launched the first German term fund . 1995 the first fund portal on the Internet with online sales is realized: www.dit.de. In 1998, Allianz established its own asset management division. At the end of 1999 Commerzbank bought Hypovereinsbank's shares in ADIG and thus holds 85 percent of its capital. The leading US bond fund manager PIMCO was taken over by Allianz and US equity management specialists Nicholas Applegate , Oppenheimer Capital and NFJ Investment Group .

In 2001 Allianz took over Dresdner Bank and bundled its own asset management units as well as its global share manager "Dresdner RCM Global Investors", later RCM, under one roof. With the takeover of Dresdner Bank in July 2001, its investment company Deutscher Investment Trust ( dit ) was also taken over. At the end of 2008 around 250 investment funds with fund assets of around EUR 240 billion were managed. In 2002 Commerzbank's fund business was bundled under the umbrella of COMINVEST Asset Management GmbH. In the same year dit was integrated into the Allianz Dresdner Asset Management (ADAM) division of the Allianz Group. In 2004 "Allianz Dresdner Asset Management" became "Allianz Dresdner Global Investors Germany". In 2006, dit and dbi were merged to form "Allianz Global Investors Kapitalanlagegesellschaft". The strategic repositioning of cominvest was brought into being with the “Alpha” growth program. A visible sign is the merging of the two brands ADIG and COMINVEST. From then on, private and institutional customers were managed under the umbrella of cominvest Asset Management GmbH. In January 2009 Commerzbank pays part of the takeover price for Dresdner Bank into its investment company Cominvest GmbH.
