The Alma ( Ukrainian and Russian Альма, Алма ) is a river in the Crimea .

It is about 83 km long, has a catchment area of ​​635 km² and flows into the Black Sea between Evpatoria and Sevastopol . The river usually falls dry 2 months a year, in drought years even up to 6 months. At the lower reaches, river water is diverted for irrigation purposes . Apples are grown in the valley of the Alma .

Alma is Crimean Tatar and means "apple". A battle between Russian troops and the troops of the allies French, British and Turks took place near the river on September 20, 1854 during the Crimean War .
