The Almagellerhütte is a refuge of the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC) in the Valais Alps . It stands in the Wysstal below the Dri Horlini . The valley location is Saas-Almagell in Valais .
Built in 1984, the Almagellerhütte is the youngest hut of the SAC, which is not a replacement for an older hut (see the Monte Rosa Hut, which opened in 2009 ).
The Almagellerhütte is the base for the popular, glacier-free approach to the Weissmies via the Zwischenbergen Pass (3268 m) and the Weissmies-Südgrat. The Saas Almagell- Gondo hike over the Zwischenbergen Pass is possible as a two-day tour .
Access
The hut can be reached from Saas Almagell via various routes in around 4.5 hours. The most popular route is the mule track, which is built with large stone slabs between the Almagelleralp mountain restaurant (2194 m) and the hut.
The ascent can be shortened by around 45 minutes by taking the cable car to Furggstalden (1901 m). At Furggstalden there is also an adventure trail that requires a head for heights.
