Life
Born the second of four children, he first came into contact with the Salesians of Don Bosco in 1914 and decided to join this congregation himself. In 1925 he was ordained a priest. In 1933 he became a teacher of literature. As early as 1935, he held a variety of management tasks. In 1942 he was finally appointed Provincial of the Province of Turin with his seat in the mother house Valdocco . In 1944 he was arrested by the German Gestapo and was imprisoned for a few days.
In 1953 he was elected to the General Council of the Congregation, primarily responsible for the Salesian staff . On his impulse, the Don Bosco magazine (Bollettino salesiano) was published in 32 issues in the main languages of the sixty nations in which the Salesians had offices at that time.
Ricceri's time as Superior General was shaped by the time after the Second Vatican Council and the reform of the religious constitutions that became necessary as a result .
