Alois Zettler (born October 9, 1854 in Munich ; † October 9, 1942 there ) was a German electrical engineer.

He trained as an electrical engineer and from 1872 to 1876 was on a rolling tour through Germany (Munich-Frankfurt), Switzerland, Italy, Austria-Hungary, (Zurich-Geneva), the Czech Republic, France, England and the USA with Edison. He specifically looked for places where he could learn new things. Only in the USA did he find no further work during the economic crisis and moved around as a tramp. Excerpts from his travel diary were published a hundred years later.

After his return, he founded his own precision mechanics workshop in Munich's Glockenbachviertel in 1877, Electrotechnical Factory Alois Zettler , which produced vacuum cleaners, radiators and call systems using water power from a self-built power plant on the Glockenbach in the early days of electricity. He invented the nurse call , which was initially used in hospitals and later also in hotels and other facilities.

In 1881 he set up the first arc lamp lighting in a boiler shop at Maffei's locomotive factory. Together with Oskar von Miller and Sigmund Schuckert , he prepared the International Electricity Exhibition in 1882 in the Munich Glass Palace .

In September 1884, King Ludwig II staged a concert in front of the still unfinished Herrenchiemsee Palace. Together with Carl Lautenschläger, Alois Zettler was responsible for the light spectacle with synchronously controllable headlights.

In 1887 he laid the foundation for today's production program in his workshop with the manufacture of telephones, electrical call systems and anti-theft devices, and fire alarms. In 1900 he converted his company into a GmbH.

He wanted to remain an inventor. From 1903 he devoted himself only to research and handed the company over to his Swiss business friend Leo Benz senior. Under him and his sons she achieved international renown in the field of relay construction and signaling technology. Until shortly before his death on his 88th birthday, Zettler worked in the company's test and testing room.
