Aloys Lammers

Aloys Lammers (born December 22, 1877 in Peterswaldau , Silesia ; † June 24, 1966 in Cologne ) was a German lawyer , administrative officer , politician ( center and CDU) and the first president of the Catholic German Academic Association -KDA-.

Life and work

Lammers was born the son of a veterinarian and grew up in Berlin. After graduating from high school, he studied law and economics at the Humboldt University in Berlin from 1897 and became an active member of the Catholic student association K.St.V. Askania-Burgundia in the KV , to which he remained lifelong. After his assessor exam, Lammers became a court assessor in 1906 and worked for the Berlin I public prosecutor since 1910. From 1914, he worked as a public prosecutor at the Berlin Court of Appeal . In February 1921 he became Ministerialrat head of the university department in the Prussian Ministry of Science. A special concern of Lammers was the support of the Pergamon Museum in Berlin.

Lammers was put into temporary retirement in June 1933. In the following years he worked as an appraiser for the Vatican in violations of the Concordat. In 1946 he became head of the cultural department of the Oberpräsident in Düsseldorf . From 1948 to 1952 he was the founding president of the Catholic German Academic Association (KDA). He was also a member of the Central Committee of German Catholics (ZdK) from 1950 to 1953 .

In 1952 he was appointed Knight of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Nicola Cardinal Canali and invested on May 1, 1952 by Lorenz Jaeger , Grand Prior of the German Lieutenancy .

Public offices

From 1925 to 1933 Lammers served as State Secretary in the Prussian Ministry of Science, Art and Education , and in this government position he was the first Catholic in Prussia. As State Secretary in 1929, Lammers played a key role in the Prussian Concordat negotiations. After the " Preussenschlag " he was appointed Reich Commissioner and headed the Prussian Ministry of Science from July 21 to October 10, 1932 in place of the Social Democratic Minister Adolf Grimme , with whom he personally had a good relationship.
