Alpay Hekimler

Alpay Hekimler (* 1973 in Günzburg ) is a Turkish economist .

biography

Hekimler studied Labor Economics and Industrial Relations at Uludağ University in Bursa (Turkey) and obtained his Masters in Human Resource Management from Istanbul University . He received his PhD from Istanbul University's Faculty of Economics . In 2006 he completed his habilitation in Istanbul. During and after his doctorate he had research stays in Germany , including at the Max Planck Institute for Social Law and Social Policy in Munich and at the Max Planck Institute for Social Research in Cologne .

In 2007 Hekimler moved to the newly founded Namik Kemal University (NKU) in Tekirdag (Turkey) . There he founded the University's Social Science Institute. Between 2007 and 2011 he was also director of the social science university, which is affiliated to the NKU, and a member of the Senate .
In summer 2013 he was visiting professor at the University of Graz . Today he is head of the department for labor economics and industrial relations at the NKU and holds the chair of social policy .

Hekimler is a member of the Southeast Europe Society and the Association for Social Policy as well as the Association of Max Planck Fellows in Cologne. In 2006 he was proposed for the Ludwig Erhard Prize for Business Journalism. In 2015 Hekimler was accepted as a member of the IGRASS - German Section of the International Society for Labor Law and Social Security. He has been a member of the Graz Legal Society since 2016. He continues to work as a correspondent for the Max Planck Institute for Social Law and Social Policy in Munich.

In December 2015, Hekimler was awarded the “Golden Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria” by Federal President Heinz Fischer .  

His research interests include the relations between the EU and Turkey, economic development, social policy, co-determination and social dialogue in the EU, labor market policy as well as European, German and Turkish labor and social law.
