Alpha Pegasi is a star in the constellation Pegasus . It is about 133 light years away and has an apparent visual magnitude of 2.5 mag.

The star bears the proper name Markab (or "Mirfak", Arabic "shoulder"). The name Markab originally comes from Arabic مركب, DMG Markab  'horse saddle', through incorrect transcription it became Mankib , which is derived from Arabic منكب الفرس, DMG Mankib al-Faras  'shoulder (of Pegasus)'.
