Alphard Island is an island north of Shaula Island in the Øygarden archipelago off the coast of the East Antarctic Kemplands .
Norwegian cartographers recorded it using aerial photographs taken during the Lars Christensen Expedition in 1936/37 . The first landing was made in 1954 by the team around the Australian geodesist Robert George Dovers (1921-1981) as part of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions . The Australian Nature Conservation Agency named it after the star Alphard , which served as a fixed point for surveying work in the area around the island.
