The Alpheon is a four-door notchback sedan of the upper middle class and was the only model of the Alpheon brand . It was presented at the Busan Motor Show in April 2010 and was officially available in South Korea on September 7, 2010 . Until production was discontinued in 2015, the model was manufactured by GM Korea (formerly GM Daewoo ) at the Bupyeong-gu plant.
Technical specifications
The Alpheon is the largely identical sister model of the Buick LaCrosse and, like it, is based on the extended version of the GM Epsilon II platform with front-wheel drive . The vehicle has a 6- speed automatic transmission in all equipment variants . The engines also originally corresponded to those of the Buick LaCrosse, with neither its 3.6-liter six-cylinder (LLT) being the top engine, nor the optional all-wheel drive for the Alpheon. From 2011, on the other hand, the 3.0-liter six-cylinder was no longer offered in the Buick Lacrosse.
The Alpheon was explicitly advertised in South Korea with reference to German design and technology. The Epsilon II platform, on which the Opel Insignia , among other things, is based, was significantly co-developed in Rüsselsheim .
In the Korean KNCAP crash test, the Alpheon achieved the maximum rating of 5 stars.
Alpheon eAssist
From November 2011 the Alpheon was also available as a 2.4-liter mild hybrid . The system known as eAssist consists of a 17.6 kW electric motor and a lithium-ion battery . This means that the vehicle should consume up to 25% less; the CO 2 emissions should be up to 22% below those of the conventional four-cylinder.
