Alpheus bellulus is a popcorn from the coral reefs of the central, tropical Indo-Pacific . It occurs on the coasts of Indonesia , the Philippines , New Guinea , Thailand , Sri Lanka , southern China and southern Japan. He probably also lives near the Seychelles and on the north coast of Australia .
features
Alpheus bellulus reaches a maximum body length of four to five centimeters. The carapace , abdomen and legs are whitish and have a tiger pattern with stripes ranging from brown to dark purple. The scissors have a broad, brown to dark purple band, the tips of the scissors are whitish. Like other snapper, Alpheus bellulus is able to generate a jet of water and a loud noise with one of the two claws by suddenly causing the dactylus, the movable scissor link, to snap against the propodus, the immobile scissor link.
Way of life
Alpheus bellulus lives very hidden in self-dug caves or in natural tunnels and crevices in the reef. Like many other species of the Alpheus genus, it lives in symbiosis with guardian gobies . Symbiosis partners include Amblyeleotris guttata , A. japonica , A. latifasciata , A. steinitzi , Cryptocentrus cinctus , Ctenogobiops feroculus and Stonogobiops xanthorhinica .
