Alphonse Foy
(Vincent Louis) Alphonse Foy (born April 14, 1796 in Somme , † January 15, 1888 in Paris ) was a French postmaster.
In 1844/45 he set up France's first experimental telegraph line with Louis Clément François Breguet . To do this, they constructed a two-needle telegraph that mimicked Claude Chappe 's semaphores .
His proposal from 1845 to set up a telegraph school was rejected and only taken up again in 1878 (today's Télécom ParisTech ).
