Alrededores de Orizaba (Eng. Area around Orizaba ) is the common collective term used to designate sights in the immediate vicinity of the city of Orizaba in the Mexican state of Veracruz .

Attractions

The most important sights in the Altas Montañas de Veracruz area near Orizaba include:

  • Cascada del Elefante y los 500 Escalones
The "Elephant Waterfall and the 500 Steps" are located on the eastern city limits of Orizaba on the other side of the outer ring of Carretera Federal 150 , which connects the Mexican capital with the port city of Veracruz . The waterfall , which measures between twenty and thirty meters depending on the source, was given this name because its shape resembles the head of an elephant. A staircase with 500 steps ( Escalones in Spanish ) leads down to the bottom.
  • Manantial de Matzinga
The “water source of Matzinga”, which is four kilometers south of the center of Orizaba at the foot of the Sierra de Zongólica , is a lagoon with swimming facilities. Its watercourse later joins the Río Blanco .
  • Cañón de la Carbonera
The “coal canyon ” is located west of Orizaba near Nogales . It extends over a length of eight and a half kilometers, in which there are gorges between 100 and 450 meters deep, as well as various waterfalls, tunnels and rocks.
