Alsever's solution

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Alseversche solution is a solution that reduces the clumping of blood cells .

properties

Alsever's solution consists of 2.05% (w / v) dextrose , 0.8% sodium citrate , 0.055% citric acid and 0.42% table salt , as well as the antibiotics neomycin , chloramphenicol and inosine . The citric acid-based buffer binds divalent cations , especially calcium ions , in aqueous solutions with the citrate anion as a chelator . Whole blood samples can be stored at 4 ° C for up to ten weeks with Alsever's solution . An Alsever solution with blood cells is similar in principle to citrated blood .

Applications

The Alseversche solution is used, among other things, in vitro to investigate the anti-inflammatory effect of possible active ingredients and to stabilize blood samples .

history

The first isotonic solution was the Ringer's solution of Sydney Ringer , for storage of living heart muscle cells of amphibians was used. Tyrode then developed the Tyrode solution , which could be used for most mammalian cell types . The Alsever solution was developed in 1941 by John Bellows Alsever and colleagues.
