Alsike is a place ( tätort ) in the Province County Uppsala and the historical province of Uppland . Besides the main town Knivsta, it is the second larger town in the municipality of Knivsta .

Mentioned for the first time in 1288 as Alseke , the name was initially the name for the church village (kyrkby). The prefix Al- means ' alder ' and is common to all interpretations, but no convincing interpretation has yet been found for the suffix.
