Old as a Tree is a song by the rock band Puhdys from 1976.

history

The song was composed by the Puhdys, the text is by Burkhard Lasch . The first lines read: “I want to be old as a tree, exactly as the poet describes it…” They refer to the poem by Louis Fürnberg I want to be old. Musically, the song is similar to the song '39 , which the band Queen released in 1975 on the album A Night at the Opera .

The song was recorded with the following line-up: Dieter Birr (guitar), Dieter Hertrampf (vocals, guitar), Harry Jeske (electric bass), Gunther Wosylus (drums) and Peter Meyer (keyboard) as well as band members in the background vocals.

In 1977 it reached number 3 in the GDR annual hit parade .

description

The original version of the piece is 2:45 minutes long. It is written in a major key in four-four time . The melody and rhythm are good , the singing style is more rocky.

The three text stanzas are of the same length. The singer explains that he would like to grow old and big as a tree, and then be "between heaven and earth" and capture his dreams.
