Ost-Rock Klassik is a music project that ran from 2007 to 2010 in which bands and musicians from the rock and pop scene in the GDR interpreted their old and new hits in a classic orchestral sound.

history

In 2007 the Puhdys , Karat , Silly , Ute Freudenberg , Veronika Fischer , Dirk Michaelis and Werther Lohse went to the recording studio with the Babelsberg Film Orchestra under the direction of Bernd Wefelmeyer . They produced their first joint album, which contains 17 popular titles by the participating artists with classically oriented orchestral accompaniment. The CD opens with the title Who honors the rose by the Renft group , which however did not take part in the project.

The album was produced by Rainer Oleak , who was responsible for Frank Schöbel , for Katarina Witt's freestyle music at the 1994 Winter Olympics , for some episodes of the Tatort television series and for the Störtebeker Festival , with the active participation of Ed Swillms , Rüdiger Barton and Dieter Birr .

In the summer of the same year, Ost-Rock Klassik went on a major open-air tour for the first time . There was also a tour in 2008, this time with a slightly different line-up. Concerts took place in Dresden , Berlin , Munich , Hanover , Cologne , Chemnitz and Magdeburg , among others .

Due to its great success in previous years, the project was continued in 2009 and 2010. Among other things, also took City , Holger bending , IC Falkenberg , rock house , Pankow and Renft part. A second album was released in August 2009. The DVD, released in 2007, received the DVD Gold Award in February 2010 .

The first two albums and the first DVD for the series of events were released under the name Ostrock in Klassik .

Ost-Rock Klassik should not be confused with the East Rock Symphony . Both are independent events with different musicians and organizers.
