Seelenschiffe is an album by the German rock group Karat from 2015 and was released on the occasion of the group's 40th anniversary.

content

Seelenschiffe is the first Karat album to be released again on a major label ( Universal ) after a long collaboration with independent labels such as ZYX Music or Edel . In addition, the album represents a special feature in the history of Karat, as the band members for the first time moved into the background with regard to their authorship of the individual tracks. Many songs come from the pen of producer Ingo Politz , and the lyricist Michael Sellin also worked for the band for the first time . Great importance was also attached to working with younger musicians (such as Constantin Krieg).

Accordingly, it is noticeable that the music is getting closer to mainstream pop than before . Overall, quieter pop ballads predominate (e.g. after summer or three words later ). The title Shall I free you is a cover version of a title from Gregor Meyle's debut album So should es sein from 2008. Meyle also appears as a singing duet partner of Claudius Dreilich on the title. Typical elements of earlier karat music can be found in the song Sag since when , which borrows from the karat hit The Blue Planet . The title You don't know what love is , in which Dreilich's vocals are only accompanied by piano and strings, ties in with earlier titles by the band.

The title song Soul Ships and Should I Free You were also released as radio promo singles.

Guest musicians included Gregor Meyle (vocals), Uwe Hassbecker (guitars), Jörg Weißelberg (guitars), Constantin Krieg (keyboards), Ingo Politz (percussion) and Marcus Gorstein (background vocals).
