chronology
- carat Across Seven Bridges (1979)

Karat is the first music album by the German rock group Karat from 1978.

content

The record consists for the most part of individual radio productions and only partly of recordings that were produced especially for the album by the state label Amiga . The record is classified as rather untypical for Karat, which can be explained, among other things, by the singer Hans-Joachim “Neumi” Neumann , who sang a few more songs here, and the group's still unclear style. Stylistically, many titles can still be assigned to hard rock (and not to the prog rock that is more typical for Karat ), such as Das Monster , Rock'n'-Roll fan and the ballad of the seven spirits . With fairy tale time , evening mood and, above all, King of the World , Karat already indicated what musical development they would later take. In 1978, the title King of the World was the first carat title to be number 1 on the GDR hit list, followed by the famous song Über Seven Bridges You Must Go , which also came from Karat and reached second place.

The titles Das Monster und Abendstimmung in the GDR and King of the World and Reggae Rita Star in the Federal Republic of Germany were released as singles. The album itself was only released in its entirety in the GDR. In 1983, four songs from Karat were subsequently released on a super sound single by Teldec in the Federal Republic of Germany ( And I love you , Abendstimmung , Märchenzeit and He, Manuela ).

Karat's debut album sold around 350,000 times in the GDR and other socialist countries.

In 1994 the album was released under the name "Karat 1" as a CD in the "Original Amiga Masters" series. This CD also contains the bonus titles Mein Dorf (Pexa / Gerlach) , People, What a Day (Pexa / Gerlach) , Erna (Protzmann / Gerlach) , Out in the Kornfeld (Swillms / Lasch) and Such a Room (Pexa / Lasch) .
