Martin Becker (musician)
Martin Becker (born June 30, 1961 in East Berlin ) is a German keyboardist , composer and rock musician .
Life
Coming from a musical family, Becker , who grew up in Magdeburg , was interested in music from an early age. At first he was self-taught with the guitar , later attended the music school in Magdeburg and finally received private piano lessons . He gained his first practical musical experience in several amateur bands such as the Zechenhaus group .
At first, music remained just a hobby, because in 1978 Becker began training as a zoo technician . In the mid-1980s, Becker met the musician Klaus Wehrmann, who encouraged him to return to music. After attending the Potsdam District Music School , Becker became a professional musician in 1985 and joined Klaus Wehrmann's band Tutti Paletti as a keyboardist , which was based on funk and Latin American rhythms . With Tutti Paletti , for whose compositions he was mainly responsible, Becker took part in the event Rock for Peace in 1987, among other things , and in the same year completed a tour to the Soviet Union . In 1988 the band broke up.
Becker then played part of the time with the Matthias Lauschus Band before he became keyboardist in Ines Paulke's backing band and went on a three-week China tour with her . With the fall of the Wall , this band also broke up. In 1990 Becker switched to the backing band of pop singer Frank Schöbel . In 1991 and 1992 Becker also worked as a composer for Hansi Biebl and his band .
In 1992 he joined Karat as a keyboard player and composer . He contributed his first compositions to the album The Gifted Hour , mainly through titles such as Der eightchte Tag, which helped the band at least temporarily to close again after their musical turn to a mixture of pop and hit songs during the years 1989 to 1992 found their old style, which is most likely to be assigned to progressive rock . Becker also appeared as a producer on the 1998 album Balance and arranged the orchestral parts for the German Film Orchestra Babelsberg himself. His title on this album ... what if it premiered in 1996 during a concert of the Rockpalast series in the Berlin Waldbühne .
Since the death of the karat singer Herbert Dreilich , who was previously responsible for the band's lyrics, he has also been writing lyrics for his compositions. Occasionally Becker was also on stage with the group Monokel as a guest musician.
