Live and act

During his professional training as an electrical mechanic in the Buna works from 1964 to 1967 , Michael Schwandt was already active as a drummer in various amateur bands. From 1969 to 1970 he received part-time drum lessons at the district music school in Halle. Schwandt decided to study relatively late, namely in 1970. At the Music Academy in Weimar , he majored in drums and a minor in piano in the special class for dance music. After completing his studies in 1974, Michael Schwandt tried to set up his own group with the composer and painter Michael Lehnert, among others. However, since the project was unsuccessful, he joined the then very famous Horst Krüger band in Berlin. In 1976 he switched from this - together with the guitarist Bernd Römer  - to Karat , with which he recorded several important German rock albums such as Über seven Brücken , Schwanenkönig and Der Blaue Planet .

In 1983 he was awarded the National Prize of the GDR III with the other members of Karat . Excellent class for art and literature.

Schwandt lives in Bergfelde .
