chronology
Fifth Season (1987) ... in the next peace Carat 91 (1991)

... im next Frieden is the eighth album by the German rock group Karat from 1990. It is the group's first album on which their long-time creative team Ulrich "Ed" Swillms (composer and keyboardist) and Norbert Kaiser (lyricist) does not appear kicked.

content

First of all, Karat is a style break on this plate . The music moves between pop and hit music and contains a few elements of the prog rock that is otherwise typical for Karat . The band's noticeable lack of orientation regarding the question of which musical path to take is due to the loss of their successful composer Ulrich "Ed" Swillms, who increasingly withdrew from the group for health reasons at the end of the eighties, as well as the decline in audience approval due to the turnaround to explain. The crowd in East Germany was now more interested in the now tangible Western artists, whereas in West Germany the “East Bonus” for Karat, i.e. the special recognition and curiosity towards artists from the GDR , had been lost. With the duet Over seven bridges you have to go by Herbert Dreilich and Peter Maffay , the LP still contains a hit. The song, which had already been released as an advance release, was played by numerous radio stations on November 9, 1989 , the day the border was opened, and became the “anthem of the year”. Also worth mentioning is the title song … im next peace , a piano piece whose text (written by Heinz Kahlau ) admonishes the danger of a great war and the extinction of humanity. With the title Always So , Karat was able to secure a top spot in the rating programs of the GDR again in 1990. In the year of publication, around 45,000 copies of the album were sold in the GDR.

In addition to Peter Maffay, Dieter Faber, Adrian Askew, Burkhard Brozat , Hans-Jürgen Knipphals, Angelika Weiz , Franziska Menke and the studio orchestra of the GDR radio were guests on the album .

As a single, the titles Immer so and Do not stop as well as Breathless and Magic of the Night as well as You must go over seven bridges and ... decoupled in the next peace . All three singles only appeared on the label "Extra Records and Tapes".

Remarks

  • On the album cover, the group noted: “At the end of an unforgettable production that brought the most diverse people together across borders, we would like to thank everyone who was there with body and soul, fire and ice, willingly and unintentionally ... for this peace . "
  • Various CDs with titles from the album "... im next Peace" and titles from the subsequent album "Karat 91" are incorrectly offered under the name "Best-Of", even though they do not contain the known and typical titles of the group.
