chronology
... in the next peace (1990) Carat 91 The Gifted Hour (1995)

Karat is the ninth album by the German rock group Karat from 1991. It was the band's first album to be released in reunified Germany. The album is often referred to as " Karat 91 " to avoid confusion with the debut album, which is also simply called Karat .

content

Together with ... in the next peace it is one of Karat's " turning albums", where the lack of orientation about which musical path to choose in the future is clearly noticeable. Karat is stylistically balanced, as with the previous album, between pop and hit music . Only a few songs come up with innovations, the production seems very “smoothed”, rock sounds are rare. Only the piece Be Only You , written by former Karat member Thomas Natschinski , whose text is by Heinz Kahlau , is reminiscent of the band's earlier style. Also worth mentioning is the penultimate track on the LP, For whom? which arouses associations with traditional, folk music of Ireland. In the course of the events of the reunification and the new opportunities for many citizens of the former GDR , interest in the album remained rather low.

The musicians, who were not satisfied with the sound carrier themselves, among other things because they could only insufficiently realize their own ideas with the label "Extra Records and Tapes", therefore decided not to release an album again until the contract with this record company expired.

Franziska Menke , Angelika Weiz , Bülo Aris, Steve Baker , Christian Wilckens, Adrian Askew and Dieter Faber were involved in the production of the album as guests .

The single titles Schwerelos and Visionen? (on the CD single additionally with rainbow and be mine ) as well as miracles and the shadows are getting longer (on the CD single also with be only you ) and in 1992 the non-album track Kind und Regen und Eis (on the CD Single additionally with Be only you ).

Remarks

  • Various CDs with titles from the album "Karat 91" and titles from the previous album "... im next Peace" are often incorrectly offered under the designation "Best-Of", although the well-known and typical titles of the group are not included on them .
