30 Years Karat is the anniversary album for the 30th anniversary of the German rock group Karat from 2005. However, the band itself was not associated with this release.

content

The first CD of the double album includes some of the group's well-known hits from 1977 to 2000. The title Schwanenkönig was published on the CD in the form of a bonus track in the cover version of the Austrian band Schürzenjäger .

The second CD contains the songs that Herbert Dreilich wrote in the last year of his life. Dreilich had sung most of the songs he could hear himself in the form of demo recordings in his home studio. The producer Peter Keller extracted the vocal track of the recordings and re-recorded the arrangements for Dreilich's voice with his team. Some songs could not be produced in this way ( only with you and sometimes I think ), here guest musicians came to the microphone. The CD also contains the two carat classics every hour and me, nobody forces them on their knees , which were newly recorded for this release. The sound of the record can best be compared to that of demo recordings (for example, a drum machine was not used , instead of real drums ). Dreilich's compositions are, as in previous years with Karat, to be assigned to rock music with emphasis on songs. The lyrics of the songs primarily make clear the thoughts that Herbert Dreilich had with regard to his serious illness and the imminent death. They dealt intensively with life and death (“Kiss me perky when I die, until I feel myself again” from the time of the winners ). At the end of 2007 a second edition of the double CD appeared with a special cardboard slipcase.

Remarks

Heinz Kahlau wrote the following accompanying text, which was printed in the booklet: “When we last spoke on the phone about twelve months ago, he asked me to say that he liked to live. I promised him that. Two weeks later I spoke at his funeral. The visit that we had arranged to meet never came again. It knew he was going to die soon and told me he had started writing stories. One of these stories, I have just read it again, takes place in an unreal world full of miracles and ends on a stage built into a valley gorge. On the slopes of this gorge, which goes deep down, sits an innumerable audience who have come to hear him and his band. But he cannot sing and has to hold on to the curtain to avoid falling into the ravine, although the musicians are playing as always. But his audience sings his song to him. It sounds like a wave towards him. His attempt to tune in comes from his mouth like a mighty scream. He is horrified, but his audience cheers him. He screamed like a terrified animal and the ravine boiled with enthusiasm. He was amazed to hear them sing his songs. It was so perfect and overwhelming that he overcame his fear and was able to sing along as if in a trance. Now he dared to look down and discovered friends from all over the world, living and dead, who sang his songs. Here the story breaks off, because the page is over. I partially retold Herbert Dreilich's strange version with his own sentences because I wanted to show how much he was an artist. "

The booklet also includes the following thanks: “ Many thanks to Gert Pasemann. Without your help this record would not have turned out the way it is! Thanks to Erich Virch for the spontaneous support. Susanne Dreilich says thanks to all contributors and musicians. Special thanks to the guest singers Petra, Peter and Thomas. Katrin, Achim and Peter thank you, Herbert, for your music and your art. We would have really liked to get to know you ... "
