Licht und Schatten is an album by the German rock group Karat from 2003. It is the last album on which Karat can be heard with Herbert Dreilich .

content

Light and shadow consists mainly of song-like, melodic rock music, the predominantly romantic (for example in Because your smile , Because I've got you and As far as the wind ) or thoughtful, philosophical topics (for example in Everything transient , The sting you can feel , Fortunately or who knows ) processed. In the guitar-heavy song Unterwegs nach Haus # 2 , the band picks up on numerous old song titles from their discography and thus creates a kind of treatise on their own history (“ Saw the blue planet almost go under, had to represent my stand, cross seven bridges. I love every hour, skipped the Swan King, counted my pounds every day and was always on the way home. ”). The last song on the CD, Someone got hurt , which only features Dreilich's vocals, accompanied by an acoustic guitar, is the first English-language track released by Karat. The title, which originated in the early 1980s, was to provide the basis for the karat hit Kalter Rauch , which appeared on the album The Seven Wonders of the World from 1984. As a bonus title Licht und Schatten contains the remakes of the two biggest karat hits Over seven bridges you must go and The blue planet .

In addition to the conventional version in a jewel case , the album was also released in a limited collector's edition in a digipack. In addition, some misprinted CDs have come into circulation, where instead of light and shadow, the title So far as the wind appeared on the label of the sound carrier. In the year of publication only about 5,000 copies were sold.

As a single, Soweit der Wind was released.

Remarks

Herbert Dreilich wrote the following accompanying text, which was printed in the booklet and refers to the title Someone Got Hurt : “ Rediscovered studio live recording, made in the mid-80s. After a studio appointment, almost alone in the semi-dark room, an unpacked guitar seduced me into singing this sad little song just for myself. The toning. It came to my ears in the control room and he put a microphone in front of my nose. 'We'll take that with us' were his words. It was then forgotten and now dug up again by me. Somewhere, maybe in a newspaper, I read these English lines and set them to music one sad night. Now it is the end of our not sad CD and a reminder of a wonderful time. Many thanks to all friends who made this CD possible. "
