Bernd Römer (born September 6, 1952 in Erfurt ) is a German guitarist and rock musician .

Live and act

Bernd Römer has been learning to play the guitar on an autodidactic basis since 1966, inspired by the early Beatles . In 1971 he completed his professional training as a radio mechanic with a high school diploma. At the amateur level he already played with the Erfurt band Pythons . In 1973 he joined the Horst Krüger Band in East Berlin as a guitarist, starting his career as a professional musician. In Berlin he attended the Friedrichshain Music School from 1974 to 1977 in order to obtain the state-recognized professional training as a guitarist. Since 1976 he has been the guitarist of the rock group Karat .

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Römer recorded some important German-language albums with Karat, such as Over Seven Bridges , Swan King and The Blue Planet . In the early 1980s Bernd Römer was declared the best guitarist in the GDR by the DT64 .

In 1983 he was awarded the National Prize of the GDR III with the other members of Karat . Excellent class for art and literature.

At the finals of the German Ice Hockey League in 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2012 and 2013, Bernd Römer played the German national anthem before the home games of the Eisbären Berlin, stylistically based on Jimi Hendrix's interpretation of the national anthem of the USA on the guitar.

In 2015 Römer married his girlfriend Melanie in Neuenhagen near Berlin . The two met in 2011 at an ice hockey game.

In addition to his involvement with Karat, Römer occasionally participates in other musical projects. He was a member of the all-star band Gitarreros , trains young musicians on the electric guitar and occasionally played with other artists (for example in the band Masterpeace).
