Rockhaus is a German rock band and one of the (East) German representatives of the Neue Deutsche Welle and New Wave . In the 1980s they were one of the most popular rock bands in the GDR . In the all-time ranking of the GDR's annual hit parade (since 1972), they come in second, right after the Puhdys and closely followed by Lift for the number one hits.
history
In 1978 the group was formed from two school bands. She entered the GDR rock scene in 1981. Musically she was very much oriented towards New Wave and funk and later developed into straightforward rock music. Her texts were strongly based on the time and music feeling of the GDR youth at the time and were therefore very well received there. The first productions met with so much popularity that in 1983 already, both the first single and the first LP called sweets and chocolate at Amiga appeared. Disco in the U-Bahn from this LP was the first German hip-hop song , according to musicologist Michael Rauhut . The 1985 album Alles Klar? also included some more successful songs. On the LP ILD , released in 1988, the band presented itself musically more mature. In the same year Rockhaus was named Band of the Year . The title song Ich liebe Dich became the number one hit in the GDR annual hit parade in 1988. In 1989 the song Mich zu liebe - also from the ILD album - also made it to the top of the charts.
After the fall of the Wall , the band produced two more albums, of which Merciless Dreams in particular was quite successful. From autumn 1994 to 1996 Acki Noack was the singer of Rockhaus. In 1998 the band broke up due to internal difficulties. Mike Kilian, the singer of the group, continued to work as a solo artist. In 2005 the band Die Prinzen was looking for an opening act for their tour. Tobias Künzel persuaded the band to make a comeback. Rockhaus toured in a row as the opening act for The Princes. The success of the tour made the band want to be back on stage together. In 2006 they went on their own East Germany tour, and the group was well received by the audience. During this tour, Rockhaus had a live DVD produced, which was released in 2009 under the name Rockhaus - Danke .
In 2006 the LP ILD from 1988 was remastered and released on CD. Jürgen Ehle von Pankow , Uwe Haßbecker and Rüdiger Barton von Silly took part as guest musicians . Petereit and Mohren produced this LP together with Jürgen Ehle.
In 2009 the CD Positiv was released and then they went on tour.
In 2010 the DVD edition Ost-Rock Klassik appeared , on which numerous " Eastern bands" such as Karat , Pankow , Eisbrenner , Electra , Silly , Renft , City and Puhdys performed together with the German Film Orchestra Babelsberg . On this live DVD, which was recorded on September 11, 2010 in the Berlin Kindl-Bühne Wuhlheide , Rockhaus is represented with Mich zu liebe , Bleib cool and ILD . In the booklet is Ingo York under its previous name Ingo Griese mentioned as co-composer.
At the beginning of 2011, Rockhaus began producing their new album, Treibstoff. This album was recorded in the studio of Rainer Oleak , whom they could also engage as the producer of the CD. Fuel was released on February 3, 2012, while the band went on a tour to 17 East German cities.
On November 22, 2016 the band announced that Mohren was seriously ill; Mohren died on January 31, 2017.
In addition to his work as a singer for Rockhaus, Mike Kilian also plays in his own Rolling Stones cover band Starfucker. In addition, he produced some solo albums. He was also involved in the GDR group Gitarreros , in which he was a singer alongside Herbert Dreilich ( Karat ), Tamara Danz ( Silly ) and Toni Krahl ( City ).
