Computer Career (sometimes Computer Career written) is the eleventh studio album by the German rock band Puhdys . It was published in 1983 in the GDR by the Amiga music label and in the FRG by Pool, a sub-label of Teldec .
Emergence
The album was produced in 1982 , but did not go on sale until 1983. The single Jahreszeiten / TV-Show was released in 1982 . As was customary at the time, the album was released as a long-playing record (8 55 944) and as a music cassette by Amiga . As with all Amiga LPs, the retail price was 16.10 marks . In the GDR the albums of the Puhdys were numbered, which is why the album was released there under the name Puhdys 11: Computer-Karriere , while in the FRG it was the first album that was not given a consecutive number.
The songs were composed by guitarist and singer Dieter Birr and keyboard player Peter Meyer , the lyrics, except for Computerman ( Burkhard Lasch ) and Creation (Wolfgang Tilgner), are by Dieter Birr. Although the group described the creation of the songs as a joint project, the duo Birr / Meyer provided the completely arranged titles, as both had fully equipped home studios at home . This fueled rumors about differences within the group, which they denied. In addition to their own songs, there is a cover version of the song of the same name by Wishful Thinking, Hiroshima, on the album; the translation of the lyrics from English is by Wolfgang Tilgner. A special feature was that drummer Klaus Scharfschwerdt contributed the vocals to the TV show and Jahreszeiten .
The record cover of the Amiga edition comes from the graphic designer Jürgen Haufe .

reception
With the album, the band tried to break new ground musically and enriched their rock music with elements from contemporary pop music and new wave . The band received severe criticism in 1982 when the two songs Jahreszeiten and TV-Show were played on the radio for the first time. The Puhdys were accused of being able to do anything because of their popularity and record sales, and that it would be bought from them. The album was largely rated negatively by the music journalists of the GDR after its release, but Computer Career is the band's best-selling album. Several songs from the album made it into the annual hit parade of the GDR radio: In 1982 Jahreszeiten reached number 9, in 1983 Sehnsucht reached number 3 and TV show number 5.
