In the evening of some days

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the evening of some days is a song by the composer Wolfgang Scheffler and the lyricist Joachim Krause from 1979. It was interpreted by the group Lift and was created as a reaction to the accidental death of two band members in 1978.

history

On November 15, 1978 three musicians from Lift had an accident while driving a car during a concert tour in Poland . The singer Henry Pacholski and the band leader and bassist Gerhard Zachar died, keyboardist Michael Heubach was seriously injured. As a result, the band could not perform for a long time. It was not until 1979, after the singer Werther Lohse found his way back to the band, that more pieces could be produced.

A few months after the accident, Lohse asked the writer Joachim Krause for a suitable text, the composition already existed. Krause had played with Zacher in the band Meridas. Krause presented three different designs. In the spring of 1979 the band rehearsed the piece for the first time.

In 1980, the evening of some days took first place in the GDR annual hit parade . In 2007 the song was performed in the first round of Ostrock in classical music .

description

The line-up was as follows: Werther Lohse (vocals), Wolfgang Scheffler (keyboard), Michael Schiemann (e-bass), Frank-Endrik Moll (drums) and Till Patzer ( accompanying vocals with other band members). The piece was produced by Volkmar Andrä.

The ballad is 3:45 minutes long in the version of the single released in 1980 and the lift album Spiegelbild released in 1981 . The piece, written in a major key , has a slow tempo; however, the sustained melody is accentuated by syncopation . The singer sings expressively right from the start, increasingly supported by the song of the band members. The instrumentation consists of an organ-like keyboard, drums and electric bass, as well as the synthesizer .

The text scheme is irregular. The five-line theme is sung twice. This is followed by a bridge , followed by the theme, a bridge and again the five-line theme and the three-line recapitulation of the theme. According to Krause, the text is "about breaking points in life that hurt and the courage to get up again". The singer appeals not to give up, even in seemingly hopeless situations - at the end it says: "And yet you will go further."
