description

The Alte Apotheke is a stately building in the Empire style with Italian influences. The patrician house has a broken hipped roof , large gable and empire decor. In its complete deviation from the otherwise rather down-to-earth development, it is one of the landmarks of Garmisch Marienplatz. It was built in 1792 in place of the village blacksmith's shop. The building was designed by the Nuremberg architect Imhoff , and the client was the wealthy businessman Johann Jakob Mayr (1734–1797). The rich interior and exterior decoration of the house was made by plasterers from Italy.

In 1822, the Augsburg doctor and pharmacist Jakob Byschl opened a pharmacy in the building . The pharmacy remained in family ownership for more than a century. In 1929 Max Byschl sold it for health reasons to Ludwig Ryhiner , who had the building extensively renovated. On October 1, 1959, Walter Imhoff from Munich took over the pharmacy on lease, and later it became his property. Today it is managed in the third generation by Verena Bockhorni . Numerous pharmaceutical equipment such as mortars, scales, bulbous glasses, painted faience, ointment vessels, artfully crafted cupboards and prescription tables in the pharmacy's rooms still bear witness to the building's past.
