The Old Castle at Homburger district Einöd in Saarland is an Outbound salierzeitliche Turmhügelburg (moth).

description

The castle was in the corridor in the Kälberwiesen near the confluence of the Schwarzbach and the Blies, and today it has disappeared without a trace.

Excavations carried out by the curator Karl Klein in 1928 uncovered the foundations of a longitudinally rectangular residential tower divided into three parts . On the south side there was a rectangular extension, perhaps a lavatory shaft similar to that at Castle Schlössel near Klingenmünster. In addition, two Romanesque column shafts with cube capitals and combat stones were found in the rubble . These probably belonged to the double windows on the upper floor of the tower.

Klein dated the complex in the middle of the 10th century, but according to Böhme ( see literature ) it was more likely that it was built in the Salian period, i.e. in the 11th century.

Fragments of Roman reliefs walled up as spolia , which were also found in 1928, suggest that the burial ground belonging to the Roman vicus of Schwarzenacker or a Roman sanctuary had existed at the site of the castle or in its vicinity . Two of these reliefs are exhibited in the neighboring Roman Museum in Schwarzenacker .
