Old fire station

The Alte Feuerwache Reutlingen is a fire station in downtown Reutlingen in Baden-Württemberg . The listed building is located on Lederstraße and was built in 1898 by the architect and Reutlingen city master builder Konrad Röcker .

The city of Reutlingen decided to build a new fire department store in the 1890s. City architect Konrad Röcker was commissioned with the planning. He had an iron skeleton construction that was progressive for this time and provided with a exposed masonry facade. The supports of the skeleton structure stand freely in the interior of the building, which is still visible in the vehicle hall. The facade was designed with bricks in different colors and associations . Images, characteristic reliefs and the words “fire brigade” could be integrated. The topping-out ceremony took place in May 1898 and the inauguration took place on September 18, 1898.

The relatively large building was initially shared by the municipal building yard and the commercial school . The Reutlingen fire brigade only occupied the vehicle hall and some rooms on the first floor. The device manager's apartment was also there.

After the Second World War , the building was rebuilt several times. New exit gates for the larger modern vehicles were installed, and in 1984 five vehicle boxes for special vehicles were added to the rear. Nevertheless, the space was limited and in the following years vehicles and equipment had to be distributed throughout the entire Reutlingen city area.

In 2003, a new station was moved to Hauffstrasse. The building on Lederstrasse was then sold by the city to the Reutlingen-based private investor Dr. Rall & Sons sold.
