The Alte Kirche Seebach is an Evangelical Reformed church in the city of Zurich . It is located in the Seebach district of the same name at the intersection of Seebacherstrasse and Buhnrain .

history

The old village church of Seebach was built in 1664 and is a Nikolauskirche . It stands on the foundations of two previous buildings, which are probably from the 12th and 14th / 15th centuries. Century. It took over the Romanesque apse from its predecessor , which is likely from the 12th century, as well as the choir from the later construction phase. In 1811 a gallery was added to the church and a porch was added. In 1963 the gallery was removed again because the new St. Mark's Church was available for larger church services.

Building description

The old church Seebach stands at the crossroads of the old ways to Rümlang and Affoltern and is located on the northern moraine foothills of the Buhnrain . The church is surrounded by a historic, abandoned cemetery. Like the other older churches in former villages in the city of Zurich (e.g. Old Church Altstetten , Church Schwamendingen), the Old Church in Seebach is a simple, chapel-like village church. In plan it is a rectangular building with a polygonal choir closure. A porch was added to the west in 1811. The church has a roof turret above the choir, which shows the time with four dials and is crowned with a pointed helmet . Regularly arranged pointed arch windows structure the interior of the church. The paneling extends to the sill . The choir is raised by one step from the nave and separated from the nave by a triumphal arch. In 1963, three colored choir windows by Sven Knebel were installed.
