It was built by the royal court building director Georg Ludwig Friedrich Laves in 1848 under the patronage of the Barons Knigge , who lived in Bredenbeck . In 1860 a teacher's apartment was added to the building. The school bell, which was cast in Hannover-Linden, is housed in the roof turret.
The building was used as a school until 1920, later as the seat of the Bredenbeck municipal administration and for residential purposes. The former school has been privately owned since 1974 and is painted with scenes from Bredenbeck's historical everyday life.
