Old Protestant Church

The old Evangelical Church is a listed , neo-Romanesque church building in Bornheim , a town in the Rhein-Sieg district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

The small hall building with a semicircular apse and a west tower in front was built in 1863 under the supervision of the Bonn municipal architect Paul Richard Thomann and inaugurated in 1866. The red brick walls are structured by light bands. The building type is classicistic , the external structure neo-Romanesque . The roof structure inside is kept open. The decorative painting took place at the end of the 19th century. On the west side there is a square tower with a slated canopy. A pre-built entrance with a large arched door is on the left long side. The building was in need of renovation at the beginning of the 21st century due to a leaky roof and pests. The renovation of the facade began in 2019, after which the interior will be repaired.

Furnishing

The arrangement of the equipment is typical for a Protestant church building according to the regulations of the Eisenach regulation of 1861:

  • The pulpit and baptismal font are on the side of the altar.
  • The organ (made by Stahlhuth , Aachen) with its 4 registers (wooden 8 ', reed flute 4', principal 2 ', mixture II-IV, each in bass-treble division) is on the west gallery. This was bought second-hand in 1988 by the Protestant parish in Sürth.

reception

"With the neo-Romanesque evangelical church, district builder Thomann succeeded in building a very good building that looks extremely lively thanks to the horizontal structure in the masonry."
