history

The rectory was built in 1783 and financed by the Lords of Venningen and is located right next to the Protestant church, which was built in 1811 .

In 1813, when Russian soldiers were quartered in private households on the march to France during the wars of liberation , it served the Russian command and was the scene of protests by Eschelbronn residents against the capture of Emil Hauck .

The house is the birthplace of the dean of the Sinsheim church district, Wilhelm Frank, who was born in 1818 .

At times it was used as a cinema . The cinema was located in an annex that no longer exists today. A play by the Sellemols theater group addressed its use as a movie theater at the time.

At the end of the 1960s, the municipality bought Eschelbronn Castle in order to tear it down and build the castle hall on the same site. Part of the relevant negotiations between the then mayor Philipp Dinkel and the owners of Venningen was also the replacement of old government duties such as the renovation of the rectory.

In 1972 the building was sold by the municipality and became private property. It has been used as a residential house and shop since then. Before the sale there were plans to accommodate a post office, a bank or a police station and a local history museum on the upper floor. However, the plans were rejected by the local council.

The house was hit by flood damage several times. The new rectory is located on Neidensteiner Straße.
