Post office

The old post house is located in the old town, right on the old trade route from Wroclaw to Krakow . The building was mentioned for the first time in 1734 in a city map as a "post office". From 1750 it was known as the Post House. From here the carriage and carriage mail went to neighboring cities such as Breslau, Neisse or Brieg .

As early as 1822, the post office moved into a new building, which was located at today's ul.Ozimska 2. A few decades later, in 1854, the post office moved into the new main post office building on today's Bahnhofsplatz. The post office is still located in this building today.

Hotel "Zum Schwarzen Adler"

After the post office moved out, the “Zum Schwarzen Adler” hotel opened its doors. At the end of the 19th century, in 1898, the old classical building was torn down and replaced by a new building in the eclectic style. The new building was adorned with numerous balconies, bay windows, a neo-Gothic gable and a large corner bay window. At that time it was one of the most beautiful buildings in the city. The building was completely destroyed in the Second World War .

Current condition

After the decision was made to rebuild the houses on the Ring that had been destroyed in the war, this building was also included. However, it was decided to rebuild it in the classical style, ie the state before the demolition in 1898. In 1954, the reconstruction of the building began. In the house itself, rental apartments and a shop were housed on the ground floor. Initially a toy shop was housed here, and later a music shop. Today there is a fashion shop and a kebab bar here.

architecture

The old post office was rebuilt in the classicism style. The outer facade is decorated with vertical and horizontal ornaments. The horizontal ones are cornices with cantilevers , while the vertical ones are pilaster strips and pilasters . The windows are decorated with festive ornaments. The upper facade area is adorned by a small tympanum in the middle and a small architecture .
