Wittekind von Schalksberg († August 3, 1383 ) was Bishop of Minden from 1369 to 1383 as Wittekind II .

Life

Wittekind came from the family of the gentlemen of the mountains , as precious bailiffs in Minden country were employed. His father was the same name Wedekind von Schalksberg (* around 1300). The area of ​​influence of the bailiffs extended to the bishopric of Minden , i.e. the southern part of the diocese of Minden . The members of the family also called themselves "von Schalksburg" or "von Schalksberge" after their headquarters in Schalksburg . The bailiffs from the mountains were often represented among the canons in the Minden cathedral chapter . Wittekind's brother Otto succeeded him in 1369 as Bishop of Minden . Wittekind was one of the last of his noble family, because with the death of his successor, Bishop Otto III. The von Berge family died out in 1398.
