The old town hall of the Thuringian district town of Nordhausen was built between 1608 and 1610 in the Renaissance style. The first written mention of the construction of a North House town hall comes from the year 1360. In 1562 repairs to the town hall became necessary, between 1608 and 1610 a major renovation was carried out. The formerly open arcade was used by several stores and in 1883 it was fitted with windows.

During the air raids on Nordhausen in 1945 , large parts of the town hall burned down; the reconstruction was completed in 1952. A stone coat of arms panel above the eastern entrance to the legend the city was founded by the Roman emperor in Latin transcription Theodosius II. In the year 410. is The City Council in 1524 with the introduction of an edict patron of all churches in Nordhausen, thus leading the Reformation one. In front of the town hall there is a copy of the Nordhäuser Roland , the symbol of freedom, power and jurisdiction. The original from 1717 is in the foyer of the New Town Hall built in 1936/37 .
