history

Arcaded courtyard

The first castle in Saybusch, Grojetz Castle, had been on the Grojetz mountain since the early Middle Ages and was of Celtic origin. In the place of the old castle there was another medieval castle, from which the Saybusch country was ruled, which was destroyed in the conflict between the Polish king Casimir IV and the Komorowski in 1477. It was rebuilt as a castle in the early renaissance style between 1485 and 1500 by the Komorowski using a medieval core and expanded in 1567. The castle's arcaded courtyard dates from this period and, like many Renaissance castles in Poland, is modeled on the Wawel Castle in Krakow . Since the Habsburgs , who acquired Saybusch in 1838, had a new castle built in the castle park , the old castle has remained unchanged since then and has retained its Renaissance character. The city museum has been located there since 2005 . In 2014, the Saybuscher Habsburgs abandoned their claims to the return of the castle and the castle park.
