history

View of the castle, 1905

The castle was probably built around 1560 by Hans Ulrich von Schellenberg instead of a medieval castle. The castle came to the Counts of Waldburg-Wolfegg through marriage in 1708. Ferdinand Ludwig von Waldburg Wolfegg and his wife Maria Anna had Johann Georg Fischer refurbish the interior of the castle from 1717 to 1721 and probably also erect the upstream economic building. In 1950 restoration work was carried out on the castle, during which wall frescoes were uncovered in one of the round towers.

description

The castle consists of a three-story square building with an asymmetrical stepped gable , into which a rectangular extension with a pent roof jumps into the northwest side. A round tower with a conical roof is located at the southwest, southeast and northwest corners of the building . The tower on the northeast side was used as a stair tower, the other two to enlarge the living space. Most of the interiors are decorated with stucco by Antoni Frast, who dates from the time the interior was completed between 1717 and 1721. In the north-east tower there are wall frescos exposed in 1950 that show biblical themes. The castle has a park designed as an English garden and several farm buildings that form an almost rectangular courtyard with the castle. The farm buildings include two bulk buildings, several stables and former service apartments.
