Old Customs House (Ericus Bridge), 2016

The old customs house is a historic building in the Hafencity and belongs to the Brooktorkai / Ericus quarter in Hamburg . It is located on the corner of Poggenmühle and Ericuspromenade, right next to the Ericusbrücke . The building is a listed building .

The customs house was built in 1911 and was used for customs controls in what was then the free port until it was lifted in 2013. It had a check-in hall, a storage room, offices and three apartments for the employees.

The red brick building was rebuilt and refurbished between 2013 and 2015 by the Hamburg architects HS-Architekten to enable subsequent use as a restaurant and office building. It has a gross floor area of approx. 1220 square meters. The client is Niantic property management in Hamburg.

Since the beginning of 2017, the building has been occupied by the "25hours Hotel Company" chain with a so-called creative laboratory and the Honey agency, a joint venture between the Gruner + Jahr subsidiary " Territory " and the "Kolle Rebbe" agency. On the ground floor, the rooms are decorated with furniture and documents from Spiegel founder Rudolf Augstein , such as a sofa from his office or letters from Augstein to the Federal Chancellor. The decoration was created in cooperation with the neighboring Spiegel publishing house , which also uses the premises.
