Altichiero da Zevio (also Aldighiero ) (* approx. 1330 in Zevio ; † approx. 1390 in Verona ) was a Verona painter of the 14th century. Under the influence of Giotto di Bondone he worked in Verona and Padua , where he worked partly together with Jacopo di Pietro Avanzi on behalf of the noble families Scaliger and Lupi.

Altichiero is considered to be the founder of the Veronese School .

In Padua Bonifazio Lupi de Graf von let Soragna the 1372 scallops which he founded, after receiving the relics of Pope Felix called 1503 Felix chapel in the Basilica of Saint Anthony (Padua) Painter of Aldighiero and the Bolognese Avanzi with frescoes decorate. In addition to a large fresco of the crucifixion, Aldighiero's first sole major work, there are scenes from the legend of St. James the Elder.

The style of the crucifixion is a grand, serious one, reminiscent of Giotto's manner in terms of expression, movement and grouping as well as the dramatic element. Striving for naturalness gives the compositions a pleasant freshness. The drawing is simple, large and determined, the coloring already capable of multiple modeling. These characteristics of the artists are even more significant in their frescoes in the Oratorio di San Giorgio in Padua, built in 1377 after the death of Count Raimondino de Lupi , where, in addition to scenes from the Passion story, the most important elements of the legend of St. George are depicted.
